is a Great-horned Owl. She has a permanent injury to her wing, from a gun-shot. She’ll never fly again or be able to live unassisted in the wild. She lives with "Samson" at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, a non-profit organization. The two owls are a bonded pair and have raised orphaned baby owls together. The FKWBC rescues injured , sick, and orphaned wildlife. In their rehabilitation, they provide medical care and the observation of recovery and pre-release conditioning. The ultimate goal is release, and the return of rehabilitated birds to their natural habitat if they are well enough to survive on their own.
The welfare of our native wildlife is threatened by increasing habitat loss and human activities. The FKWBC believes that the most effective ways to help wildlife in need is to provide a continuum of medical and rehabilitative care while educating the general public about the importance of wildlife in our environment with peaceful coexistence and mutual interdependence.
Unfortunately some birds will never be able to survive in the wild due to the nature of their injuries. FKWBC provides a permanent home for many non-releasable birds to act as educational ambassadors on behalf of their species. Delilah is a beautiful ambassador.
